The world can be a stressful and sometimes overwhelming place, especially during the craziness of the Holiday season. For those of us with anxiety, all the social events, parties, and crowds can be extra challenging. This makes it especially important to remember to prioritize self-care and take breaks to re-focus and breathe.
One easy way to do this is to pick a calming website to visit- and you wouldn’t believe how many awesome choices there are! The internet, while it can certainly be a source of stress, also has the power to bring you a brief escape from all the chaos. Here are 5 of my favorite calming websites to visit when I’m feeling anxious:
1. The Quiet Place Project
The Quiet Place Project is a virtual "room" which brings you away from the business, distractions, and notifications we get caught up in. It plays some gentle music, which you can mute if you want, but has no flashy ads, pop-ups, or interruptions. What a breath of fresh air!
2. Calming Manatee
Calming Manatee is a simple webpage that generates images of an adorable manatee with encouraging messages. You can refresh the page as many times as you want to get a new message each time. I’ve found it surprisingly uplifting.
3. Live Kitten Cams
What better way to relax then hanging out with little kittens? This website lets you watch kitties being kitties from a live camera feed at Kitten Rescue Sanctuary in Los Angeles, California. If you (somehow) would rather watch something else, the site also has other animal and scenery live feeds.
4. Silk
Silk is a calming, interactive site that lets you easily create unique neon drawings on a dark background with your mouse. It’s beautiful, simple, and so fun to do!
5. My Noise
MyNoise is a huge collection of high-quality sounds including nature, voices, industrial sounds, drones and more. I sometimes also like to use this site to fall asleep, or to focus when I’m studying. My favorites for calming anxiety are the cat purr, rain noise, and fan noise.
